Two Sizes for Different Needs
The plant press is available in two sizes – a smaller, handy model ideal for flowers and leaves, and a larger one for pressing multiple specimens at once or bigger plants.
How to Use a Plant Press
- Place the plant between sheets of paper (preferably unbleached or acid-free for the best results).
- Insert the paper sheets between the wooden plates.
- Tighten the press with the rope and steel rods.
- Leave it in a dry place for 1–3 weeks, depending on the thickness and moisture of the plant.
When the plants are dry, you can mount them on sheets or in a herbarium with notes about date, place and name – a beautiful combination of science, memory and creativity.
Easy Pressing at Home
You don’t always need special paper to get started. Household paper, newspaper or baking paper also work well to absorb moisture. A simple alternative to a plant press is placing the plant between paper in a heavy book, preferably with extra weight on top. The difference with a real press is more even pressure, faster drying and longer-lasting results.
